There are several questions to worries parents regarding the Zhu Zhu Pets toys, minly trlated with the safety of their children

From the official site of Cepia, the manufacturer of Zhu Zhu Pets (also known as ZuZu Pets) we got the following explanations:

Know Your Zhu

With their unique personalities and unpredictable behavior, you’ll never be able to completely control your Zhu hamsters and characters, but here are some important things to know to about playing with them.

When your Zhu is stopped or asleep:

  • Press your Zhu’s nose to hear it talk.
  • Press or pet your Zhu’s head to hear it coo and chirp.
  • Press your Zhu’s back to make it scurry around and explore. [NOTE: the button will appear as the collar dog tag for puppies when that product line is added]

When the Zhu is exploring:

  • If your Zhu bumps into something, or if you press it’s nose, the Zhu will back up and change direction.
  • Press your Zhu’s head to get it to stop exploring.
  • Press your Zhu’s back to get it to yawn and go to sleep.
  • The Zhu hamsters and characters have tilt sensors that help stop the wheels if they happen to tip over.

Play Tips:

  • Make sure you get to know your Zhu hamster or character before you start playing with it.

    Know Your Zhu”

  • Zhu hamsters and characters have special wheels that allow them to run around and explore. Keep hair, loose clothing and fingers away from them to make sure nothing gets caught, pinched or entangled.
  • Zhus like to be played with on flat surfaces, in habitats, add-ons, vehicles, tubes and other Zhu products. Do not play with Zhus on grass, sand, dirt or carpet.
  • Zhus are not pet toys. Keep Zhus away from your other animals.
  • Do not sleep with your Zhu. They have their own beds, habitats and homes.
  • Do not let a Zhu hamster or character get wet. (If a Zhu gets wet, remove the batteries and let air dry overnight.)

Safe Play:

Age rating 4+:  The Zhu hamsters and characters (ZuZu Pets) are designed to be enjoyed by a wide range of ages but they are not recommended for children younger then 4 years of age. Of course, no one knows their child better then their parents, so you should use your own judgment to determine if your child is ready to play with the toy regardless of their age.

Entanglement:  All motorized toys have the potential for entanglement. Keep hair, loose clothing, and fingers away from the wheels to prevent entanglement.

How to Untangle: If a child’s hair gets caught or wound around a wheel, simply stop the wheel by firmly grabbing it. Next, press the back or head button once to stop motor from running. Then, slowly unwind hair from axle by turning the wheel by hand.

Not a Sleep toy: Zhus are not designed to be sleep toys. Zhus have their own beds and habitats to sleep in. (If your child insists on sleeping with their Zhu remove the batteries before your child takes it to bed.)

Zhus are for People:  Zhus like to play with people. Be careful with your Zhus around pets and other animals.

Keep Dry:  Zhus should not be dowsed or submerged in water or other liquid. Spot clean the Zhus. If a Zhu does get wet, remove the batteries and let it air-dry overnight.

Product Safety Testing:

Rigorous testing and inspection procedures are in place for all Zhu Zhu Pets products to assure that the toys are completely safe.
